Dr. Dejian Liu is the inventor of Disciplined Design Methodology. He is the founder of NetDragon Websoft Holding Ltd., one of the most successful online gaming companies in China. In 2015, Dr. Liu was awarded the designation of Special Allowance Expert in China’s State Council. Under his leadership, NetDragon has brought its products to more than 180 countries in ten languages, enjoying over 65 million registered overseas users. IIn 2010, Dr. Liu founded Huayu Education that integrates worldwide cutting-edge education resources with leading mobile internet technology. Huayu Education recently earned a Smart Media Award from Academics’ Choice for producing a top-quality product, 101 Education, which improves teachers’ experience in preparing lessons. Dr. Liu is certified as a senior engineer by the China Association of Science and Technology, the highest level of proficiency awarded. He is co-dean and chair of the Council for the Smart Learning Institute at Beijing Normal University.

Nian-Shing Chen

Dr. Nian-Shing Chen is Chair Professor in the Institute for Research Excellence in Learning Sciences and Program of Learning Sciences at the National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan. Prof. Chen received the national outstanding research awards for three times in 2008, 2011 and 2015. He is ranked in the second place on the top authors list by article count in Computers & Education. He is ranked 4 on the top scholar list in educational technology field based on an article published in British Journal of Educational Technology. One of his papers published in Innovations in Education and Teaching International was awarded as the top cited article in 2010. Professor Chen served as the Editor-in-Chief for the prestige journal of Educational Technology and Society. He is a golden core member of IEEE, life-long member of ACM and the former Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Learning Technology.

Elvira Popescu

Dr. Popescu is currently working as Full Professor at the Computers and Information Technology Department, University of Craiova, Romania. She is also the Head of the Research Laboratory in Computers and Information Technology (Interdisciplinary Research Center in Computing, Automation, and Robotics, University of Craiova). Her current research interests include: technology enhanced learning, adaptation and personalization in Web-based systems, computer-supported collaborative learning, social learning environments, learning analytics, intelligent and distributed computing. She has authored and co-authored more than 100 publications, including books, journal articles, book chapters and conference papers. She has participated in over 15 national and international research projects, four of which as principal investigator (grant director). She received several scholarships and awards, including five best paper distinctions. Dr. Popescu obtained her PhD in 2009, from the University of Craiova, Romania and University of Technology of Compiegne, France (double degree). She currently serve as the Vice Chair for the IEEE Women in Engineering Romania Section Affinity Group, as Board member for the IEEE Technical Committee on Learning Technology (TCLT) and the International Association of Smart Learning Environments (IASLE). She is also a Distinguished Speaker in IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitors Program (2020-2023). Furthermore, she is actively involved in the academic community by serving as associate editor for four journals (IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, Smart Learning Environments, Human-Media Interaction section - Frontiers in Computer Science & Frontiers in Psychology, IEICE Transactions on Information and Systems - until 2019).

Junfeng Yang

Junfeng Yang is a professor in Hangzhou Normal University, and also a visiting professor in Beijing Normal University. He serves as the vice-dean for Educational Informatization Strategy Research Base (Beijing) established by Ministry of Education China from 2020. He has been working on ICT in education since 2010, and served as consultants for different level policy makings on ICT in education and smart education. He has published more than 40 academic papers, including SSCI journal papers and outstanding Chinese journal papers. He earned the title of “Zhejiang creative and leading talent in higher education”, “Zhejiang Young Zhijiang social science scholar”, “Hangzhou new century 131 scholar”. He serves as the associate editor of the journal of Smart Learning Environment published by Springer.

Dr. Kinshuk is the Dean of the College of Information at the University of North Texas. Prior to that, he held the NSERC/CNRL/Xerox/McGraw Hill Research Chair for Adaptivity and Personalization in Informatics, funded by the Federal government of Canada, Provincial government of Alberta, and by national and international industries. He was also Full Professor in the School of Computing and Information Systems and Associate Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology, at Athabasca University, Canada. After completing first degree from India, he earned his Masters’ degree from Strathclyde University (Glasgow) and PhD from De Montfort University (Leicester), United Kingdom. His work has been dedicated to advancing research on the innovative paradigms, architectures and implementations of online and distance learning systems for individualized and adaptive learning in increasingly global environments. Areas of his research interests include learning analytics; learning technologies; mobile, ubiquitous and location aware learning systems; cognitive profiling; and, interactive technologies. With more than 550 research publications in refereed journals, international refereed conferences and book chapters, he is frequently invited as keynote or principal speaker in international conferences and visiting professor around the world. He has been twice awarded the prestigious fellowship of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (2008 and 2013). Dr. Kinshuk is Founding Chair of IEEE Technical Committee on Learning Technologies, Founding Editor of the Educational Technology & Society Journal (SSCI indexed with 5-Year impact factor of 2.720 according to 2019 Clarivate Analytics Report), and one of the Founding Editors of Springer’s open access Smart Learning Environments journal (indexed by SCOPUS).

Dr. Richard A. W. Tortorella is a Visiting Scholar with the University of North Texas and an Affiliated Researcher with the University of Turku. He is also an Assistant Editor for the Springer Smart Learning Environments Journal. His current research focus is on the merger of context-aware learning systems with artificial intelligence. His work is dedicated to the promotion and advancement of research in advanced learning systems. Prior to his current appointments, he was an Assistant Editor for the Educational Technology & Society Journal. He is active in post secondary education both in course development and instruction.
