Advancing Educational Sustainability through Cutting-Edge Technologies
The 7th International Conference on Smart Learning Environments (ICSLE 2023) was successfully held in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 31 to September 1, adopting a hybrid format that combined online, offline, and metaverse participation. Co-hosted by the International Association for Smart Learning Environments (IASLE), Thailand Cyber University (under Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation), and the Asian Institute of Technology, the conference was held concurrently with the 14th International eLearning Conference of Thailand Cyber University (IEC 2023). Dr. Dejian Liu, Co-Dean of the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University (SLIBNU), IASLE Chair, and ICSLE 2023 Co-Chair, delivered a video address, while Prof. Ronghuai Huang, SLIBNU Co-Dean, IASLE Co-Founder, and ICSLE 2023 Co-Chair, attended the event in person.
Under the theme “Smart Learning for a Sustainable Society: Emerging Technologies and Applications,” the conference received 69 submissions, accepted 38 papers, and gathered global researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in smart learning environments to discuss leveraging emerging technologies for sustainable development. Discussions focused on the interplay between education and technology, as well as the integration of smart learning environments. The conference proceedings, Smart Learning for a Sustainable Society, are now available on Springer’s official website.
During the conference, Prof. Daniel Burgos, UNESCO Chair in eLearning and Professor at the International University of La Rioja, Spain, led a workshop titled “How to Write an Open Education & Open Science Policy for Higher Education.” At the closing ceremony, Prof. Mohamed Jemni, Director of the ICT Department at the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), announced that ALECSO will host the 8th International Conference on Smart Learning Environments (ICSLE 2024) in Tunisia.
